Bolton, Ejigu, Holland and Selvig Each Win Events at MSU

The Eagles had four top finishes at the 2012 Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team competed in the 2012 Spartan Invitational this weekend, April 6-7, at Michigan State University. The Eagles were extremely successful, including four first place finishes at the two-day event.
On the track the Green and White spread their success over both the short and long distance events. Cameron Bolton took the top-spot in the 200-meter dash with a 21.71 finish, while Jay Saunders came in second with a 21.82. Bolton was not finished after the 200-meter as he took second in the 400-meter dash in 48.04, finishing just five-hundredths of a second behind the first place finisher. Terefe Ejigu placed first in the 800-meter run as the 2012 MAC Indoor Championships' Most Valuable Performer crossed the finish line in 1:52.22 and Austin Hendrix came in third with a 1:53.55 finish. Levi Selvig and Fontaine Holland were each able to take top-spots in a hurdles race as Selvig won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.82, while Holland took the 400-meter hurdles in 53.96. Selvig also came in fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a 55.87 finish. Nick Petro took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:16.85.
EMU took second and third in the two relays at the Spartan Invitational. The Eagles' team of Bolton, Chris Scott, Pedro Delgado and Saunders placed second in the 4x100-meter relay with a 42.00 finish, while the 4x400-meter team of Chris Hall, Josh George, Scott and Nick Twining placed third after crossing the finish line in 3:20.91.
In the field events Max Babits and Joe Tesner tied for second in the pole vault with 16-foot leaps, while Arron Davis' 45-feet and 2.25-inch triple jump was good for fourth. Senior captain Andrew Meyer took fifth in the shot put with a 52-foot and 11-inch toss, while placing sixth in the discus with a 155-foot and six-inch throw.
"It was another positive step for us as we saw steady all-around improvements from the team, with numerous personal bests," remarked head coach John Goodridge on the Eagles' performance at Michigan State.
The Green and White continue the outdoor portion of its 2012 schedule with the Jesse Owens Invitational, Friday-Saturday, April 13-14, in Columbus, Ohio.
