FISHERS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- Despite firing a final round 316, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished in fourth place at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championship with a three-day cumulative score of 951 (310-325-316). Kent State University captured its 14th consecutive league title, finishing at 44-over par 908 (301-307-300) on the par 72, 6,127 yard Hawthorns Golf & Country Club course.

EMU senior Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) finished in seventh place with a 14-over 230 (73-80-77) while junior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) tied for 11th with a 236 (79-80-77).

Ball State University's Jenna Hague claimed medalist in dramatic fashion, coming from eight strokes back to start the final round and winning with a birdie on the first playoff hole.  The turnaround point of the round was a birdie on 13 and then her first collegiate hole-in-one on the 172-yard 15th hole, with a four iron one day after carding a triple bogey on the same hole.

Going three-under par over 13, 14 and 15 gave Hague a one stroke lead and she needed a birdie on 18 to force the playoff with the University of Toledo's Piyathida Chaiyapan, who also birdied the 18th.  On the first playoff hole, Chaiyapan settled for par while Hague equaled her effort in regulation with a birdie.  Hague's final round 69 tied for the lowest round to close a MAC Women's Golf Championship.

Kent State entered the day with a five stroke lead and gradually grew its advantage to its eventual 16-stroke margin over Ball State.  KSU's Mike Morrow was named MAC Coach of the Year and Mercedes Germino earned MAC Golfer of the Year.  KSU's Jennifer Ha was named MAC Freshman of the Year and Ohio University's Megan Weaver earned MAC Sportswoman of the Year.

The Golden Flashes (908) were followed by BSU (924), UT (927) and EMU (951). While Akron (961), Western Michigan (973), Ohio (993), Bowling Green (999) and Northern Illinois (999) rounded out the team standings.

For the tournament, three of the five Eagles ranked in the top 15, including Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) who finished 14th with a 239 (7-79-81). Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) and Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) rounded out the lineup with 33rd and 35th place, respectively.

Head Coach Sandy Wagner and the rest of the Eagles will now await the announcement of the teams that will participate in the three NCAA regional championships. That announcement will be made April 30.
