MAC MADNESS HEADS TO THE “Q”: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team begins its post-season run Friday, March 9, in the semifinal round of the 2012 Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. The contest is the finale of the two semifinal tilts and is scheduled for approximately 2:30 p.m. from Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.
The Eagles, seeded second in the tournament, have enjoyed 10 days from the court due to the team's “triple bye” and need just one victory to advance to their third MAC Championship game in the past nine seasons. The West Division co-Champions boast an overall mark of 21-8 and 13-3 in MAC play.
SECOND-BEST RECORD IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT: During the past eight MAC Tournaments dating back to the 2004 championship, Eastern Michigan has posted an 11-7 mark, the second-best record over that span. EMU was 3-0 in 2004; 2-1 in 2005; 1-1 in 2006, 2007 and 2010; 0-1 on 2008 and 2009, and 3-1 in 2011. Bowling Green is 21-3 during that time while Toledo is 11-8, Ball State is 9-7 and Kent State is 6-8.
KEEPING AN EYE ON THE EAGLES FROM BACK AT HOME: For those who are unable to make it to Cleveland for the MAC Tournament, you can still follow all the action on the radio and on the television. Chad Bush, Greg Steiner and Jeff Fulton will call the action on WEMU (89.1 FM). Pregame coverage begins 10 minutes prior to every EMU contest. On the tube, fans can catch both semifinal games Friday, March 9, on Comcast Digital Cable Channel 900 throughout the state of Michigan beginning at noon. The semifinals, as well as Saturday's title game, will also be shown on SportsTime Ohio.
JAMES AND REDDITT NEAR RECORD FOR GAMES PLAYED: Seniors Tavelyn James and Paige Redditt have each played in 126 games during their four-year careers and are tied with Cassie Schrock (2007-11) for the all-time record for the most games played in an EMU uniform. Schrock set the record just a season ago when she appeared in 126 contests.
JAMES MOVING UP THE MAC LIST: Senior Tavelyn James, the leading scorer in EMU history, is also moving up the Mid-American Conference list.
