Eagles host Ball State and Miami in back-to-back duals

Complete Release.

EAGLES FINALLY RETURN HOME: Head Coach Ryan Ray's Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will finally return to the friendly confines of the Chippewa Racket Club in Ypsilanti for two home duals after seven straight road matches.
The Eagles will host Ball State University Friday, March 30, and follow that the next day, March 31, with a home dual against Miami. Both of those MAC matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will be held outdoors on the Chippewa courts, weather permitting.
Eastern, now 5-11 on the year overall, opened its 2012 MAC season with a 4-3 dual-match win at Toledo Friday, March 23.
The Eagles were impressive in the doubles action at Toledo, winning all three matches for the one doubles point.
“That was a great start to the conference getting a tough road win,” Ray said of his team's victory at Toledo. “The ladies put in the work to prepare for this match all week. Ankita (Bhatia) was very clutch in pulling out two tiebreaks to get the deciding point. It was a good team effort.
The No. 1 doubles team of Miriam Westerink and Nino Mebuke won a close 9-8 decision over Toledo's Kelsey Anonsen and Lexy Pitt.  The No. 2 doubles duo of Mariya Toncheva and Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr handed Toledo Chrissy Coffman and Pia Rygh an 8-3 setback and the EMU No. 3 team of Daphne Friedrichs and Marcela Rivero handled Alexandra Cristello and Amanda Border, 8-3.
The singles play did not come as easy for the Eagles as they split the six decisions. Mebuke, at No. 1, Ankita Bhatia at No. 3 and Rivero at No. 6 won their singles matches to give EMU the 4-3 decision.
Bhatia turned in a thrilling victory, defeating Toledo's Pitt, 7-6, 7-6, winning both tie-breakers, eight and five.
After that thrilling MAC win, the Eagles moved on to Louisville, Ky. for a dual match Sunday, March 25, versus the University of Louisville Cardinals.  Louisville prevailed, 6-1, with Rivero recording the lone singles point for the Eagles.
