EAGLES SWING BACK INTO ACTION ON HAWAIIAN TRIP: Head Coach Ryan Ray's Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will close out a 19-day break from competition with matches in Hawai'i and California along with extended practice sessions in Hawai'i. 
The Eagles will play two dual matches in Honolulu.  Eastern will square off against host Hawai'i Wednesday, Feb. 29, and will also meet Iowa State in another dual meet, Thursday, March 1. The Green and White will also have several team practice rounds while in the Islands. On the return trip to the mainland, the Eagles will have a dual at Loyola Marymount Saturday, March 3, in Los Angeles.The Eagles are 4-5 on the young season after their most recent match, a 6-1 home win over IPFW, Feb. 10.

MAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sophomore Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia) was named Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, Jan. 30. She turned in a 4-0 weekend in singles and doubles. Normally the No. 2 singles player, Mebuke moved up to No. 1 with the regular No. 1 player, Miriam Westerink (Rheden, The Netherlands-Tomas a Kempis), slowed down by the flu.  Mebuke defeated UD's Elena Strakhova, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles Friday, Jan. 27, and came back and beat Michigan State's Nicole Herzog, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 singles Sunday, Jan. 29.
In doubles play, Mebuke teamed with Westerink at No. 1 to beat Detroit's Amanda Cornwell and Julia Fernandes, 8-2, and Sunday she teamed with Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr to beat Michigan State's Herzog and Katarina Lingl, 8-4, also at the No. 1 doubles slot.

MEBUKE/WESTERINK NATIONALLY RANKED: The No. 1 EMU doubles team of sophomore Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia) and senior Miriam Westerink (Rheden, The Netherlands-Thomas A Kempis) was ranked 57th nationally and 7th in the Midwest Region in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division I rankings released in the first week of January.
