Hall of Famer Takes Second at USATF Championships in New Mexico

Jamie Nieto took second in the high jump at the Indoor USATF Championships over the weekend
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (EMUEagles.com) – Recent Eastern Michigan University E-Club Hall of Fame Inductee, Jamie Nieto, continued his success on the national stage over the weekend as he took second at the USATF Championships in the high jump.
Nieto, now affiliated with the New York Athletic Club, placed second in the high jump after leaping seven-feet and six-inches. He was just one-inch shy of the winning mark at the USATF Championships held at the ABQ Convention Center, Feb. 25-26, and has qualified for the Indoor Visa Championship Series and will represent Team USA at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, March 9-11.
Nieto holds both the indoor and outdoor records for the high jump at Eastern Michigan after leaping seven-feet and 4.5-inches in 1998 for the outdoor mark and seven-feet and six-inches in 1999 for the indoor best. The Chula Vista, Calif. native won a back-to-back Indoor MAC Championships in the high jump in 1998 and 99.
The 1999 EMU graduate was inducted into the E-Club Hall of Fame as one-of-seven members in the 2011 class which was honored at the men's and women's basketball doubleheader, Feb. 11, at the Convocation Center.
