Women's Tennis Records 6-1 Win Over IPFW

Eagles now idle for 19 days before heading to Hawai’i for two matches
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team improved to 4-5 on the season with a 6-1 dual-match win over a visiting IPFW team here Friday afternoon, Feb. 10, indoors in the Chippewa Racket Club.
“We set a good tone early with the doubles,” EMU Head Coach Ryan Ray said. “We were a bit flat in singles and IPFW made us work for every point. We did get the job done, however. Now we will get to work on improving things over the next two weeks.”
The Eagles began the match by winning all three doubles matches for one point. Eastern then won all six singles matches, with No. 1 Miriam Westerink (Rheden, The Netherlands-Thomas a Kempis), No. 3 Mariya Toncheva (Burgas, Bulgaria-Sport School Vasil Levski), No. 4 Daphne Friedrichs (Hufingen, Germany-Elisa Brandstrom Schule), and No. 5 Marcela Rivero (Santa Cruz, Bolivia-Saint George) and all won their singles matches in straight sets while No. 2 Ankita Bhatia (Gurgaon, India-Delhi Public Schools) and No. 6 Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr (Adelaide, Australia-Sacred Heart) went to tie-breakers before turning in their wins.
The Eagles will now be idle until heading to Hawai'i to play twice, against Hawai'i, Feb. 29, and Iowa State, March 1.
