Fouty records 13 points, 12 rebounds to pace Eastern

LARAMIE, Wyo. (EMUEagles.com) – Making its farthest road trip of the season, the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team fell to the University of Wyoming Cowgirls, 73-50, Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30, at Arena Auditorium.

Olivia Fouty (Toledo, Ohio-Sylvania Northview) recorded her first double-double of the 2012-13 season to lead the Eagles. The junior forward recorded 13 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Denaya Brazzle (Portland, Ore.-Chipola College) added a career-high eight points off the bench. With the loss, Eastern drops to 1-6 on the season.

Chaundra Sewell led all scorers, tallying 20 points for the Cowgirls as teammate Kaitlyn Mileto contributed 19 points to help Wyoming move to 5-1 on the season.

Wyoming outrebounded EMU, 50-36, a main factor in the contest as the Cowgirls scored 40 points in the paint compared to 24 points for Eastern Michigan.

The Green and White shot only 32.2 percent from the field, and Wyoming's hot starts in both halves led to its 42.3 shooting percentage from the floor.

India Hairston (Flint, Mich.-Hamady) started the game's scoring with a deuce courtesy of a nice pass from Desyree Thomas (Waterford, Mich.-Mott).  However, Wyoming got off to a hot start offensively, shooting 5-of-8 to start the game and taking a 12-4 lead into the first media timeout.

The Cowgirls increased their lead behind Mileto, who hit 5-of-7 from beyond the arc at that point, giving Wyoming at 30-14 lead with 7:58 remaining in the first half.  Following a jumper by Fouty, the Cowgirls held EMU scoreless for the next five minutes, going on a 7-0 run.  However, the Eagles responded with a 7-2 run to end the half down 39-23.

Fouty's seven points and four rebounds led the Eagles in scoring for the first half. While both teams shot 40 percent from the field, Wyoming's 11 offensive rebounds turned into 12 second chance points.

Wyoming would come out strong to begin the final twenty minutes of play going on a 9-0 to increase its lead to 25. Eastern would continue to battle as three offensive rebounds in one possession eventually led to a Fouty put-back and Eastern's first second chance points on the contest.

EMU would not be able to mount a comeback as the home team continued to be efficient on both sides of the floor.

Freshman Bianca Cage(Memphis, Tenn.-Southwind) nailed a three-pointer just before the final buzzer, her first points as a member of the Eagles, to round out the scoring, 73-50.

Before returning home to face the University of Michigan, Dec. 11, the Eagles will stay out west to finish their three-game road trip, traveling to Brookings, S.D. Tuesday, Dec. 4, to face the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Tip from Frost Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST.
