EMU Ends Exhibition Slate With Victory

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) ––
The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team defeated Wayne State University, 77-57, at home Tuesday night, Nov. 6, in the Eagles' final exhibition game before beginning the regular season.

After building a 14-10 lead through the first six minutes of the contest, EMU went on a 21-9 run to build the lead to 35-19 with 6:13 to play in the opening half. From there, the Eagles sustained their cushion, taking a 45-30 into the locker room led by senior Miranda Tate's 14 first-half points including shooting 3-of-5 from three point range. The Eagles were also able to create a double-digit lead by going 13-of-14 from the charity stripe.

EMU never looked back to start the second half, continuing its solid play and increasing the lead to as much as 27 points. Tate's 20 points led the way for the Eagles, while Natachia Watkins also etched double digits, scoring 10 points. Watkins' impressive showing also included seven rebounds and seven assist in the Eagles' victory.

Kristen Long led the way for the Warriors, scoring 11 points before fouling out with 11 seconds remaining in the contest.

Following two exhibition victories, first year Head Coach Tory Verdi takes his Eagles squad into the regular season slate Sunday, Nov. 11, against Northeastern. Tipoff is scheduled for noon at the Convocation Center. The game will also be broadcast live on Eagle All-Access.
