YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team returns home for Mid-American Conference matches against a pair of East Division opponents in Ohio University Friday, Oct. 12, and Kent State University Sunday, Oct. 14. Friday's contest gets underway at 3 p.m. while Sunday's match is slated for 1 p.m. The Green and White (7-5-1; 4-2-0) look to get back in the win column after dropping both road contests last weekend.

Prior to Sunday's game against the Golden Flashes, the EMU soccer family will recognize the squad's lone senior, Jessica Thomas, in a pregame ceremony.

THOMAS TO BE HONORED AT SENIOR DAY: Senior defender Jessica Thomas, who has been a member of the EMU soccer team since 2009, will represent the lone honoree at senior day Sunday, Oct. 14, before the start of the game against KSU. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Thomas has played in 67 games and has racked up three assists with 27 shots and 13 on goal.

Thomas is one-of-three team captains this season, and has guided an EMU defense which boasts five shutouts in the 2012 campaign. Offensively, she has chipped in with a pair of assists against Oakland University, Aug. 19.

CAT CALL: The Bobcats come into Scicluna Field holding down third place in the MAC East Division with a 2-3-1 mark in conference play and an overall ledger of 7-6-1. Ohio went 1-1 last weekend with a 3-2 win versus the University of Akron, Oct. 5, and a 1-0 loss to the University at Buffalo, Oct. 7.

In 18 meetings between the Eagles and Bobcats, the two teams have each won seven times with four draws. Last season, OU edged EMU, 1-0, in Athens, Ohio.

FLASH FORWARD:  Sitting in second place in the MAC East Division is Kent State, which enters the fourth weekend of conference action with a 3-2-1 MAC record and an 8-3-2 mark overall. The Golden Flashes enjoyed a 2-0 weekend, Oct. 5-7, with a narrow 1-0 home victory over Buffalo and a 3-2 overtime victory on the road at Akron.

The Eagles hold an 11-6-0 edge all-time against the Golden Flashes, but KSU defeated EMU most recently, Sept. 30, 2011, by a 2-1 margin. Kent State takes on WMU Friday before playing the Eagles Sunday.

VULTAGGIO GETS 30TH CAREER POINT: Sophomore Angela Vultaggio's goal Sunday, Oct. 7, at Miami was her sixth of the season and marked the 30th point of her young career. The Chesterfield, Mich. native is the only player on the EMU roster to achieve the 30-point milestone and is one of only 15 players who have done so in the 18-year history of Eastern Michigan soccer. The reigning MAC Freshman of the Year, Vultaggio scored six goals and added an assist for 13 points during her first season. In 2012, she leads the team with six goals and five assists for 17 points.

In addition to Vultaggio, several EMU players have a chance to pass the 30-point marker this season including juniors Stephanie Clarke (27), Cara Cutaia (27) and sophomore Bianca Rossi (22).

STILL IN GOOD SHAPE: A disappointing 0-2 weekend away from Ypsilanti dropped the Eagles into second place in the MAC West Division as Central Michigan University won both of its games to leap past EMU. But with 12 points, the Eagles remain just three behind the Chippewas and can pull back even or take over sole possession of top spot in the division depending on how both teams perform this weekend.

The Green and White is in third place overall in the MAC, as Miami continues to roll along with an undefeated 6-0 mark in conference play. A top-four finish in the regular season standings would give the Eagles home-field advantage for the MAC Tournament quarterfinal game, Oct. 28. EMU must maintain a top-eight seeding in order to qualify for the postseason competition.

WEEKEND ROUNDUP:  A stop in Muncie, Ind. to face Ball State University was the first order of business for the Eagles over the weekend. Redshirt freshman Jenna O'Dell had a busy afternoon, facing seven shots on goal and stopping six. The only shot she did not save ended up going down as the game-winner, a 72nd-minute goal from Maimee Morris. Eastern Michigan's offense was unable to provide much support, managing just a pair of shots on BSU goalkeeper Aubrey Buehler.

EMU had several opportunities to knot the score in the closing 20 minutes with a pair of corner kicks and shots on target, but to no avail.

Then Sunday, Oct. 7, a furious second-half rally by  EMU ended in disappointment as Miami scored the go-ahead tally with five minutes remaining to escape with a 4-3 win. Eastern Michigan fell behind, 3-1, in the 52nd minute, but freshman Megan Trapp's first-career goal in the 67th minute and sophomore Martha Stevens' tally in the 84th minute stunned the home crowd and pulled EMU even. The tie would be broken less than a minute later when Kayla Zakrzewski notched the game-winner for the RedHawks.

Angela Vultaggio opened the scoring, and Molli Krick turned in a two-point game with a pair of assists. Fellow sophomore Bianca Rossi along with junior Cara Cutaia also registered a point in the contest with an assist.
