Volleyball Stymied in Straight Sets by RedHawks

Eagles drop second straight as Miami claims first MAC win
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball squad dropped its second straight at home Saturday, Oct. 13, falling victim to the Miami University RedHawks. The straight-set win (20-25, 26-28, 31-33) was Miami's first Mid-American Conference victory of the season.
EMU fell to 13-11 on the season and 3-5 in conference play, while the RedHawks are now 6-15 and 1-7 in the MAC.
Erin Short (Orrville, Ohio-Orrville) led the EMU offense with 13 kills and a .235 attack percentage (13-5-34). Kim Hildreth (Novi, Mich.-Novi) posted 37 assists, good for an average of 12.3 per set. Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) notched 10 kills, while Megan Crawshaw (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan) had nine. Sierra Reed led the Eagles' defense with a team-high 19 digs in the match.
Eastern dropped the opening set, 25-20, as they hit just .128 (12-7-39). Short led the Eagles with four kills in the set, while Crawshaw picked up a trio of kills. Iaquaniello had seven digs to lead the defense while Hildreth notched 10 assists in the frame. Miami used a .342 attack percentage (16-3-38) to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The RedHawks took a 2-0 lead after topping EMU, 28-26, in the second frame. Eastern had a seven-kill performance from Iaquaniello in the set, but was unable to stop the Miami offense, which hit .286 (18-2-56) in the set.
The Eagles dropped the final set, 33-31, to fall for the second-straight match at home. Meg Riley led the RedHawks with 11 kills in the final frame, while Short posted eight kills. Eastern could not get the offense in gear as they hit just .091 (16-10-66) in the final set of the match.
The Eagles continue the 2012 campaign when they travel to Akron, Ohio to take on the Zips in a cross-divisional matchup. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
