EMU HEADS TO BUFFALO FOR FIRST MAC EAST GAME OF SEASON: The 2011-12 Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team is scheduled to head to Buffalo, N.Y. Tuesday, Jan. 24, for its first action of the season against a Mid-American Conference East Division team.  The game will be the first of six consecutive East Division opponents for EMU. Buffalo enters the game with a 10-6 overall record and a 3-2 MAC mark.
First-year Head Coach Rob Murphy's Eagles are 4-1 in the MAC and 9-10 overall after recording two wins last week, a 62-59 overtime victory over Western Michigan, Jan. 18, followed by a 41-38 win over Toledo, Jan. 21. Both of those games were at home.

FIRST 4-1 START SINCE 1996-97: It has been 14 years between 4-1 Mid-American starts for the EMU men's basketball team. This year's Eagles have jumped out to a 4-1 start to the Mid-American Conference season to share the West Division lead with Ball State. The last time the Eagles were 4-1 to begin a league campaign was 1996-97.  That '96-'97squad won its first four games, lost one, and then won three more for a 7-1 start. The team finished 11-7 in the MAC that season, good for fourth place. Eastern was 22-10 overall in '96-'97.

MATCHING THE SCORE:  When EMU turned in a 41-38 win over Toledo Saturday, Jan. 21, it matched the 41-38 final when the Eagles upended Central Michigan, Jan. 23, 2011, two days shy of a full year between those contests. Both of those EMU games came on the home Convocation Center court.

NO DOUBLES:  The Eagles had nine players break into the scoring column in a 41-38 win over Toledo Saturday, Jan. 21, but not one EMU player would break into double digits in scoring. Senior guard Darrell Lampley (Linden, N.J.-Linden-Lakeland C.C.) led the Eagles with nine points while junior forward Jamell Harris (Euclid, Ohio-Euclid) added eight points with seven rebounds.

THRILLER IN OT:  EMU came up with a thrilling, 62-59, overtime win at home Wednesday, Jan. 18, over Western Michigan University.  That overtime win was the first extra-session game for the Eagles since a 68-65 loss to Detroit, Dec. 11, 2010, at home in the Convocation Center.  That last overtime win for the Eagles was a 55-53 victory at Ball State, March 8, 2009.

INSTANT Q: EMU senior guard Quintin Dailey (Las Vegas, Nev.-Bishop Gorman-Sheriday C.C.) has come up with big plays in the second half in the Eagles' last three games.  With the Eagles trailing by a 48-43 count with just 2:11 left at Ball State, Jan. 14, the 6-foot-3 Dailey hit a three-point field goal at the 2:08 mark to cut it to two, 48-46, and then added two free throws with 1:41 left to tie it at 48-all. In the 62-59 overtime win over Western Michigan, Jan. 18, Dailey scored six points in the second half to help lead the Eagles to victory.  In Saturday's, Jan. 21, 41-38 win over Toledo, Dailey hit two consecutive threes down the stretch to help propel the Eagles to the win.

GREEN ON THE LATE-GAME TRIPLE:  The win over Western Michigan, Jan. 18, was the second straight game that EMU senior guard Antonio Green (Inkster, Mich.-Dearborn Heights Robichaud) hit a three-point shot in the last few seconds.  At Ball State the triple with 1.5 seconds left gave EMU a 51-48 win in regulation.  Green came up with another big three pointer against WMU, this time with just 4.9 seconds left, to give EMU what looked like a 53-50 EMU win. WMU's Nate Hutcheson would match Green's triple with one of his own at the buzzer to tie the game at 53-all, forcing an overtime session.  Green was up to the game-winning task in the extra session also as he made two clutch free throws with 17 seconds left to give the Eagles a 62-58 lead. EMU would go on to record a 62-59 win.

TOUGH ON THE ROAD:  The Eagles have endured a long road schedule this year, playing 11 of their first 18 games away from the Convocation Center.  Despite that disparity between home and away, the Green and White has a 4-7 road record, including capturing two of its Mid-American Conference wins away from Ypsilanti.  EMU opened the 2012 MAC season with a 47-40 win at Northern Illinois, Jan. 7, and followed that up with a 51-48 last-second thriller at Ball State, Jan. 14.

CONVO DEBUT:  The CMU game, Jan. 11, marked the Convocation Center debut of EMU sophomore center Da'Shonte Riley (Detroit, Mich.-Country Day-Syracuse) and the 7-footer responded with five points, a career-best 10 rebounds with two blocks in 26 minutes of action.  Riley transferred this fall from Syracuse University and sat out the first 10 games of the 2011-12 season before being awarded an NCAA transfer waiver to be able to play this season.  He has played in nine games and is averaging 5.1 points and 4.2 rebounds.

BLOCK PARTY:  Junior forward Jamell Harris (Euclid, Ohio-Euclid) recorded two blocks against Toledo, Jan. 21, to give him 30 blocks on the year and 124 for his career.

SPREADING THE WEALTH:  In Wednesday's, Jan. 18, 62-59 overtime win over a visiting Western Michigan University team, the Eagles had nine of the 10 players that saw action break into the scoring column.
