The Eagles improve to 2-1 in MAC meets

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team improved its record to 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference after defeating Akron, 185-115, this afternoon at Jones Natatorium.
The Green and White set the tone early in the 200 Medley Relay with the quartet of Amanda Kiefer, Lauren Kalinosky, Jessie Godlewski and Jackie Swartz combining for a 1:47.95, first place effort.
Emig and Wesley Blassneck placed 1-3 in the 1,000 Free with times of 10:28,86 and 10:37.94, respectively. Emig placed first in the 500 Free as well, racing to a 5:01.48 finish. She would also take first in the 200 distance in 1:52.29, while teammate Helena Tolic finished runner-up in 1:55.29.
In the 200 Backstroke, Keifer and Michelle Gingher placed 2-3. Kiefer touched the wall at 58.29, while Gingher raced to a 1:00.90 finish.
Kalinosky was the top-finisher in the 100 Breaststroke this afternoon, as her 1:06.58 performance was the quickest in the event. Monica Dorszewski placed third in 1:06.91.
Godlewski and Swartz picked up big points for the Eagles with their 1-2 finish in the 200 Butterfly. They completed the event in 2:04.48 and 2:07.37, respectively. Godlewski would also take first in the 200 Back with her time of 2:06.36.
In the 200 Breaststroke, Dorszewski, Kalinosky and Vanessa Weidner swept the podium with a 1-2-3 punch. Dorszewski completed the race in 2:23.91, while Kalinosky and Weidner finished in 2:24.68 and 2:26.83.
Meghan Richardson was the top-performer in the 100 Butterfly in 57.62, and Swarz claimed the runner-up spot in 58 seconds flat.
On the boards, Kelly Hendricks scored 346.20 points on the three-meter boards and placed second on the one-meter dive with 299.85. Danielle Hulvey was the top finisher in the one-meter event with a score of 299.85 and was second on the three-meter with 332.93.
The Eagles will return to action on Jan. 27 when they host Miami for a MAC dual-meet at Jones Natatorium. The meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
