EAGLES HEAD TO WISCONSIN:  Head Coach Ryan Ray's Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will head to Madison, Wisconsin for a pair of dual matches this weekend, Jan. 20-21.
The Eagles are slated to play the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Friday, Jan. 20, at 1:30 p.m. (CT). Saturday, Jan. 21, the Green and White will square off against the Wisconsin Badgers in a 10 a.m. (CT) matchup. Both duals are scheduled to be played indoors at the University of Wisconsin's Nielson Tennis Stadium in Madison.
EMU is coming off a split of duals Saturday, Jan. 14, indoors at the Chippewa Racket Club in Ypsilanti.
The Eagles dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 54 ranked Marshall University in a 1 p.m. match and returned at 8:30 p.m. to record a 7-0 win over Oakland University.
EMU freshmen Ankita Bhatia (Gurgaon, India-Delhi Public Schools) and Daphne Friedrichs (Hufingen, Germany-Elisa Brandstrom Schule) were the only two Eagles to win both of their singles matches on the day.  Bhatia defeated Marshall's Kia Broomfield, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles and came back for a 6-2, 6-3 win over Oakland's Grace Keating at No. 3 singles. Friedrichs upended Marshall's Karlie Timko at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-3,  and returned that evening to post a 6-0, 6-2 win over Oakland's Brittany Baxter at No. 5 singles.  Complete results from the Marshall and Oakland matches are on page 4-5 of this release.

MEBUKE/WESTERINK NATIONALLY RANKED: The No. 1 EMU doubles team of sophomore Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia) and senior Miriam Westerink (Rheden, The Netherlands-Thomas A Kempis) is ranked 57th nationally and 7th in the Midwest Region in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division I rankings released in the first week of January.
Mebuke and Westerink have a 5-4 record through the fall season while playing some of the top competition in Division I.  That EMU doubles team finished runnerup at the Muirfield Village Clay Court Invitational, Sept. 16-18, and also went 1-1 in the ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying Meet held Oct. 1-2 at UCLA.
