Shelby Earns Honor from National Society of Collegiate Scholars

Redshirt freshman wide receiver holds a 3.60 GPA in communications
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University redshirt freshman wide receiver Julius Shelby (Bellwood, Ill.-Proviso West) will be honored by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars for his academic success. The ceremony will take place Thursday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. inside the EMU Student Center Ballroom.
NSCS is a non-profit organization that recognizes more than 800,000 high-achieving students nationally in areas of service, scholarship and leadership. The organization admits students in the top 20 percent of their class with a minimum of a 3.4 GPA.
Shelby, who practiced with the team but did not see any game action in 2010, carries a 3.60 GPA in communications. This season in three games, he has caught two passes for a total of 26 yards.
Students are invited to join NSCS during the spring semester of their freshman or sophomore year and participate in an application process before receiving a formal request to join the organization in the fall.
The NSCS awards more than $250,000 in scholarships annually and offers induction recognition awards, merit awards and study-abroad opportunities. The organization also offers ScholarJobs, a job tool that allows users to create and upload a resume into an NSCS-exclusive job search system.
