Terefe Ejigu Named MAC Track Athlete of the Week

It is the second time this year Ejigu has won the award
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Mid-American Conference recently announced that Eastern Michigan University sophomore distance runner Terefe Ejigu has been named as the conference's Male Track Athlete of the Week, as determined by a group of conference coaches and officials. It was the second time this year, and the second time of his career, that he has won the award.
Ejigu out-shined a field of 36 elite athletes at the world famous Penn Relays this past weekend to take first place in the 5,000-meter championship run. The second-year runner posted a time of exactly 14:00.00, edging out Eastern Kentucky's Soufiane Bouchikhi who ran a 14:00.52. The time was Ejigu's career-best, shaving close to 20 seconds off of his previous best of 14:19.62 from one year ago at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Classic. It also ranked as the fifth-best time at the 5,000-meter distance in EMU history and the 65th-best time at the collegiate level this year.
The Eagles will be back in competition this coming weekend, May 6-7, when the team travels just eight miles down the road to the University of Michigan for the Len Paddock Invitational.
