Richards kick-started the Eagles' offense in the first, slapping a single to center field to put the leadoff runner on and eventually made her way around to third after swiping two bases.
Despite her efforts, the Green and White fell short, stranding Richards 60 feet from the go-ahead run, but would successfully convert in the following inning.
Kayla Kostich (Taylor, Mich.-Cabrini) entered the second with a one-out walk and advanced to second base on Nicholson's single through the right side.
Lindsay Smith (Seville, Ohio-Cloverleaf) did some damage in the following at bat, plating Kostich from second base on a bloop-single that floated into shallow right-center field to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

The Chippewas took advantage of EMU errors to plate two runs in the third and take their first lead of the game.
Ashley Gilson led off with a solo shot to center field for CMU's first run of the contest.
With two outs, Brittini Merchant reached first safely by an errant EMU throw and advanced to second after the ball wandered out of play. She would score on the following at bat with Amanda Patrick's single through the right side to put the Chippewas up, 2-1.
EMU responded in the fourth inning, using two two-out hits and a CMU error to tie the game at two apiece.

In the fourth, the Chippewas offense tallied nine runs on five hits and an Eagle miscue to take an 11-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
With the impending run rule before them, the Eagles needed two runs to stay alive and force the game to continue on into the sixth inning.
