Meyer Wins Shot Put, Wishart Excels in Triple Jump

Day two concludes for Eagles in Michigan and Pennsylvani
PHILADELPHIA, Pa./HILLSDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – During the team's first full day of competition at the Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich., men's track and field senior co-captain Andrew Meyer led his team by winning the shot put event, while freshman standout Shnell Wishart placed high in the triple jump for the women's track and field team in Philadelphia, Pa. at the Penn Relays. Each squad is competing at both venues, with the Penn Relays starting Thursday, April 28, and running through Saturday, April 29, while the Gina Relays run concurrently.
Wishart continued to impress, as the first-year leaper competed alongside the nation's top athletes at the Penn Relays, holding her own and placing higher than any other fresh triple jumper. Her mark of 39-10 was good for sixth-place at the meet. As for Meyer, following a foul on his hammer throw, he redeemed himself in a huge way by winning the shot put with a throw of 53-09.25.
Kate Wolanin placed third in the high jump for EMU at Gina, while Angela Scarber took fourth in the hammer throw in the field.
The quartet of Rosie White, Ashley Wartley, Ashlee Abraham and ReJeana Marigna finished ninth in the 4x100-meter relay final. The group ran the conference's second-fastest time of the year in the event.
Matt Wines scored another top-10 finish for the Eagles as he placed eighth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:02.61.
Competition resumes Saturday, April 29, as the final day of each Relay concludes.
