KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
Jenna Ignowski (Niles, Mich.-Niles) was lights out on the mound for the Eastern Michigan University softball team, earning her first career no-hitter in the Eagles 16-0 win over the Broncos in game one of today's Mid-American Conference doubleheader split with Western Michigan University.

EMU dropped the second game, 4-3, and now sits at 15-7 overall with a 2-2 mark in the MAC. The Broncos move to 7-20 on the year and 2-2 in conference play.

In the Eagles 16-0 victory in game one, Ignowski became just the tenth pitcher in EMU history to record a no-hitter, a feat that has not been accomplished since the 2009 season when Michelle Hletko threw a no-hitter against Albany on Feb. 20.

Ignowski was nearly perfect in the contest until she gave up a walk in the bottom of the fifth inning. In five innings in the circle, Ignowski struck out seven and walked one to improve to 9-2 on the season.

The Green and White's offensive statistics in game one landed in the ranks of a number of categories in the EMU softball record books.

The Eagles 16 runs ties the second most scored by an EMU squad, which has not been achieved since the 1989 campaign. EMU's 17 hits ties the fourth most ever recorded. The team's 14 RBI matches the second most runs knocked in by an EMU squad, and the offense's five doubles also ties the second most hit in a single contest, while seven EMU extra-base hits is the second most achieved in a game in program history.

Six players had multiple-hit games, with Lauren Delapaz (Plymouth, Mich.-Canton) knocking in four runs on her first career grand slam to left center field in a 2-for-3 effort on the day.

Stacie Skodinski (South Bend, Ind.-Washington) also homered for one of her three hits in the contest, while driving in two RBI and scoring three times for the Eagles. Sarah Gerber (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) contributed a 3-for-4 performance at the dish with an RBI and three runs scored.

The Eagles scored early and often throughout the contest, tallying runs in all but one inning of play.
In the first, EMU jumped to a 2-0 lead when Skodinski doubled to center field, allowing Jessica Richards (Canton, Ohio-Jackson) to come around from second to score. A ground ball moved Skodinski to third and she was eventually plated for the Eagles' second run on a WMU error.

Ignowski went on to strike out the side in the bottom of the frame, and would strike out two more victims in the late half of the second inning.

With a four run lead heading into the fourth, the Eagles unleashed an additional nine runs on nine hits to push the score to 13-0.

Kaylee Tolliver (Amanda, Ohio-Clearcreek) started the offensive run on a single up the middle. A past ball moved her to second, and a walk and bunt single from Katy Blaharski (Carleton, Mich.-Airport) loaded the bases for EMU. Delapaz would clear the base paths with a shot to left center, increasing the Eagles lead to eight.

For the ninth time this season, Skodinski went yard to add on to an already convincing lead. Back-to-back hits by Gerber and McKenna Russ (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) set up an RBI double for Courtney Nicholson (Navarre, Ohio-Canton Central Catholic). With a runner at third, Blaharski completed the offensive attack with her RBI bunt-single.

EMU posted three more runs in the fifth on four hits and an WMU error to but the Eagles up by a staggering 16 runs.

Ignowski entered the bottom of the fifth inning with a perfect game on her hands, but a walk knocked it down to a still- impressive no-hitter as the Eagles ran away with a dominant 16-0 win over the Broncos.

The Eagles dropped game two despite cranking out seven hits in the contest. EMU left seven runners on base and lacked key hits as the Broncos avenged their previous loss, taking the 4-3 win over the Eagles.

Lauren Wells (Lowell, Ind.-Lowell)
started the contest in the circle, but after giving up two runs in two innings, Ignowski was called to the mound in relief. The sophomore was charged with the loss (9-3), striking out one in 2.1 innings of work.

Delapaz and Richards each posted two hits in the contest and both chipped in an RBI and scored once.
EMU struck first in the opening inning. Richards tripled to left and was brought in to score off of a Delapaz single. WMU managed to get out of the inning before more damage could be done, and knotted the score at one apiece in the bottom half of the frame.

The Eagles jumped ahead once again in the second. A single by Tolliver and a double from Nellie Coquillard (Niles, Mich.-Niles) put runners at second and third for Richards. The junior took delivered with her second hit of the day to put the Green and White ahead, 2-1.

In the bottom of the third, the Broncos offense came alive with a three-run inning to take a 4-2 lead after Tara Buchanan homered to right field.

After a scoreless fourth inning, EMU came through with a one-run fifth inning after a Gerber RBI double to plate Delapaz from second base.

The Broncos would cling to their 4-3 lead through the remainder of the contest to steal the win and force the doubleheader split with the Eagles.

EMU will return to the field on Wednesday, April 6 when they head to Cleveland State for a non-conference doubleheader. The first game is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
