Eagles square off against Bowling Green and Western Michigan this weekend

Complete Release

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
-- The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team currently sits in a log-jammed third-place in the Mid-American Conference, currently tied with Western Michigan University and the University of Toledo with a 3-2 conference record. There will be some adjustments after the weekend as the Eagles hope to gain sole-possession of the spot after clashing with Bowling Green State University (currently sixth in the conference) and the Broncos of WMU.

With a weekend sweep of the teams, head coach Ryan Ray could secure a tie for his best finish as Eagles' head coach when the team finished 5-3 and tied for third in the conference during Ray's second season. It would also tie his career-high in overall wins for a season (12) while heading EMU's program.

» WHAT'S ON TAP: The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will embark on its final raod trips of the season as the Eagles visit Bowling Green, Ohio, then Kalamazoo, Mich. to battle the Bowling Green Falcons and the Western Michigan Broncos, Friday and Saturday, respectively, April 15 and 16. Each match will start at 1 p.m.

» SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
The Falcons are currently 11-7 overall on the season and are 3-2 in the Mid-American Conference, sixth out of the nine teams in the league. Despite BG's sub-.500 conference record, the team currently boasts four players with 40 or more combined wins on the season (combined singles and doubles play) and are 3-1 at their home courts (Perrysburg Tennis Center) on the year.
Western Michigan is tied for third in the MAC with the Eagles (and Toledo) with a conference record of 3-2, but WMU is only 10-11 overall. The Broncos have split their last four contests, having dropped a road game against Depaul its last time out, and taking a match against BG in the previous match. With a win over Western, the Eagles would spoil WMU's streak of 15 straight seasons with at least six conference wins, as WMU has but three conference tilts remaining and would only finish with five wins following a loss to EMU and wins in its other two matches.

» THE SERIES:
Western Michigan has dominated the all-time matchup between the two teams, as the Broncos have won 31 of the 39 matchups. EMU was narrowly clipped the last time out between the teams, as Western edged Eastern, 4-3, in Ypsilanti, Mich. on April 9, 2010.
On the flip side of the coin, EMU has had BGSU's number throughout their rivalry, with Eastern winning 27 of the 37 matches, including eight of the last nine regular season matchups. EMU beat Bowling Green 4-3 on April 10, 2010, the last time the two teams faced off.
