YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
—The Eastern Michigan University softball team moved its record to 20-8 on the season after splitting with visiting Oakland University in the Eagles' doubleheader split this afternoon, April 12, at Varsity Field.

In game one, the Green and White dropped a 6-1 decision to the Golden Grizzlies, but bounced back in the night cap for a 10-2 five-inning final.

Despite out-hitting OU 5-4 in game one, the Golden Grizzlies used a grand slam in the top of the sixth to plate the go-ahead and eventual winning runs as they pulled away with the first of two.

EMU jumped ahead to a one run lead in the bottom of the second inning. McKenna Russ (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) connected on her lone hit in the contest with a single to right field, and was later moved to second on a ground ball to first base. Nellie Coquillard (Niles, Mich.-Niles) plated the Eagles only run of the game with her RBI single to left center.

The home team maintained a 1-0 lead until Oakland's Kylie Schalz stepped to the plate and drilled a bases loaded, 2-1 pitch beyond the right center field fence to give the Golden Grizzlies a 4-1 lead.

OU added two more in the seventh, holding the Eagles in the bottom of the final frame to run away with the 6-1 victory.

Jaclyn Caro (Chino, Calif.-St. Lucy's Priory)
is charged with the loss and drops to 1-3 on the season. The senior went 7.0 innings in the circle while striking out six and scattering four hits.

The Green and White redeemed their game-one loss in the night cap, cranking out 11 hits for 10 runs in the contest.

Allison Scherer (Stow, Ohio-Stow-Munroe) showcased her best offensive performance of the season with her 2-for-3 effort at the dish. The junior blasted a three-run bomb to contribute to her eventual four RBI and scored one run for the Eagles.

Much like the first game, the Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Jessica Richards (Canton, Ohio-Jackson) drew a walk to lead off the inning and moved into scoring position on her 12th stolen base on the year. A wild pitch and one out later, Scherer approached the plate with a runner sitting at third base and drove a shot up the middle to put the Eagles up, 1-0.

EMU added three more in the second on two hits and an OU error to take a 4-0 lead, but the Golden Grizzlies responded with a two-run outing in the top of the third to pull within two.

Back-to-back singles from Lindsay Smith (Seville, Ohio-Cloverleaf) and Richards opened up the fourth inning to place runners at first and second. Smith was tagged out a play at the plate for the first out of the inning, leaving runners at the corners for Scherer. With one swing of the bat, the Stow, Ohio native increased EMU's lead to five on a three-run, round tripper to right center field.

Stacie Skodinski (South Bend, Ind.-Washington)
checked in to pinch hit later in the same frame only to rip a two-run double down the left field line and set the score at 9-2.

Coquillard's single in the following at bat concluded the Eagles scoring and set the final score of 10-2.

Lauren Wells (Lowell, Ind.-Lowell) picked up the win in the circle after notching 3.0 shutout innings of work. The freshman struck out three and gave up two hits without issuing a single walk to improve to 7-1 on the year.

The Green and White will return to action this weekend when they resume Mid-American Conference play with Ball State University at Varsity Field. First pitch of the first game is set for 1 p.m.
