Women's Golf Still In Command After Day Two at Rio Verde Invite

RIO VERDE, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team retained control of first place after the second round of the Ninth Annual Rio Verde Invitational at Rio Verde Country Club Saturday, March 5. Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) posted EMU's low round of the afternoon with a two-over 74, as the Eagles increased their lead over the University of Michigan to eight strokes.
Kristen Hill from the University of Akron currently leads the field of 89 golfers at one-over par (72-73=145). Scott along with Michigan's Yugene Lee are tied for second place and just one stroke off the lead after two rounds. Scott finished the afternoon with a two-over par 74 and a two-day total of 146 (72-74) while Lee fell out of the top spot after a four-over 76.
After beginning the day tied for first place at two-under par, Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) struggled to find her stroke Saturday and dropped to the sixth spot with a seven-over par 79 and a total of 149 (70-79). Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) heads to the final round in sole possession of fifth place with a 148 (72-76) following a second round of 74.
A five-over par 77 pulled Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills) into a tie for 25th place with a 157 (80-77) after starting the day tied for the 41st position. Finally, Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) improved two spots to 39th place after a seven-over par 79.
Northern Arizona University is in third place with a 611 (309-302) on the par 72, 6,255-yard White Wing Golf Course, while Penn State University remains in fourth at 614 (306-308). The University of Toledo is currently in fifth place with a 617 (313-304) .
