BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (EMUEagles.com)
— The Eastern Michigan University softball team wrapped up action after a rainy weekend at the Indiana Hoosier Classic. The Eagles closed out their final day in Bloomington, Ind. splitting two games in a loss to Michigan State and a win over Loyola-Chicago.

The Eagles now sit at 9-4 on the year after posting a 2-2 record over the weekend.

In the opening game of the day, EMU dropped a 9-1 decision to Michigan State. Offensive production was spread throughout the EMU lineup, as four separate Eagles posted hits in the contest. Stacie Skodinski (South Bend, Ind.-Washington) drilled her second round-tripper of the season for the Green and White's sole run in the game, while Sarah Gerber (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover), Jessica Richards (Canton, Ohio-Jackson), and McKenna Russ (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) also contributed at the plate with one hit apiece.

Lauren Wells (Lowell, Ind.-Lowell) is issued the loss and falls to 1-1 on the year. The freshman hurler went 3.2 innings in the circle, striking out five of 16 batters faced.

After a scoreless first inning, MSU jumped ahead 1-0 in the top of the second on a wild pitch and later posted three more runs in the top of the fourth to take a four run advantage over EMU. The Eagles would respond, however, in the bottom of the same inning when Skodinski stepped to the plate and blasted a leadoff solo shot over the left field fence.

Michigan State closed out the contest in the following frame, knocking in five runs to end the game issue the Eagles the loss.

The Eagles switched gears in the second game of the day against Loyola-Chicago. EMU's offense recorded six hits, just two better than the previous game, but the Green and White were able to cash in with runners in scoring position to drive in eight runs against the Ramblers for an 8-4 final.

Six EMU players earned hits in the contest, but the long ball proved to be valuable for EMU. Skodinski registered her second home run of the day in a 1-for-3 effort at the dish, while Lauren Delapaz (Plymouth, Mich.-Canton) hammered a three-run homer over the left field fence, plating both Richards and Katy Blaharski (Carleton, Mich.-Airport) in the top of the seventh.

Sophomore Jenna Ignowski (Niles, Mich.-Niles) earned the win (6-1) in 5.1 innings of work. She gave up just two earned runs, striking out two. Jaclyn Caro (Chino, Calif.-St. Lucy's Priory) threw 1.2 innings for the save, fanning two of eight batters faced.

The Eagles scored in four separate innings, but provided the most offense in the final inning of play. With the score close at 4-3, the Green and White pushed four runs across the board to pull ahead for the final, 8-4.

EMU will return to action March 23 when they travel to South Bend, Ind. for a double header against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. First pitch of the first game is set for 5 p.m.
