EMU, Wright State to Face Off in Tennis

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will try to stay undefeated at home on the season Friday, Feb. 4, when the team takes on Wright State at the Chippewa Racquet Club at 1 p.m.

» WHAT'S ON TAP: At 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, the Eagles will host the Wright State Raiders at the Chippewa Racquet Club. It will be the Eagles first match since a double-header on Jan. 29 when the team blanked Detroit and Oakland in back-to-back contests.

» SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: The Raiders are 2-0 on the season, but have not seen action in two weeks, after a 7-0 win over Souther Illinois University-Edwardsville on Jan. 22. Sophomore Kayla Tuscany is the only member of WSU to post a winning record thus far with a 6-5 record.

» THE SERIES: The Eagles and Raiders have never faced off in tennis, but will do so for the first time Friday. The Dayton, Ohio school

will travel to Ypsilanti for the team's first meeting.

» 2011 SEASON KICKS OFF: The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team kicked off the spring portion of its 34th season, Friday, Jan. 14, as it traveled to Huntington, West Va. to play Marshall. The team dropped the match, 6-1, but regrouped to earn a 7-0 win against Morehead State the following day on Marshall's neutral court. The team's first season of women's intercollegiate tennis at EMU was 1976-77 under the direction of Lucy Parker. The Eagles went 8-7 that season and finished fifth at the Michigan AIAW Championship.

» RAY RETURNS FOR A FIFTH: Head Coach Ryan Ray returns for his fifth season as the women's tennis coach. In four seasons, he's led the women to an overall mark of 34-54 (13-19, MAC). His best overall finish at Eastern was his first year at the helm, 2006-07, when his team finished 12-11.
