Women's Golf Takes Sixth at Red Rocks Invitational

SEDONA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team fired a final round 327 to finish in sixth place Saturday, Feb. 26, at the 18-team Red Rocks Invitational with a two-day total of 649 (322-327). Host Northern Arizona won the event with a 613, followed by Western Michigan (623) and Montana (629) on the par-72, 6,084-yard Oakcreek Country Club course.
Redshirt freshman Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills) was EMU's top finisher with a 158 (76-82) that put her in a three-way tie for 16th place. It marks the best finish of her young career, bettering a 25th place finish just a week ago at the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate, Feb. 13-14. Nevada's Lauren Hernandez won with a 150, Northern Arizona's Alexa Kim was second with a 151 and NAU's Stephanie Kim was third with a 152.
Behind Kwon, senior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) notched back-to-back rounds of 80 to capture 19th place. Senior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) tied for 35th with an 165 (82-82), while sophomore Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) and freshman Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) finished with a 166 (84-82) and a 170 (84-86), respectively.
Competing as individuals, sophomore Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario-Westside Secondary School) turned in rounds of 86 and 81 to finish in a tie for 43rd with a 167. Corey Crossan (London, Ontario-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) managed a 175 (90-84) in a tie for 77th.mer holds down the top on the leader board with a one-over 73.
The Eagles travel from Sedona to Rio Verde, Ariz., for the ninth annual Rio Verde Invitational, March 4-6.
