MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team had a good showing at the CMU Quad Thursday night, Feb. 24, as the Eagles finished in third place with a team score of 191.475.
The Eagles move their record to 4-7 (2-3 MAC) after going 1-2 on the day.
Host Central Michigan University finished at the top with a team score of 194.875, followed by Southeast Missouri State taking second, finishing with a team score of 193.875, and Alaska Anchorage in fourth, tallying a team score of 188.900.
Reigning MAC Gymnast of the week Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) finished in a six-way tie for first place on the vault recording a 9.850. Viltz posted a career high 9.750 on the floor exercise, earning her a ninth place finish and notched a seventh place finish on the balance beam, earning a score of 9.675.
Junior Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva) was the only Eagle to compete in the all-around, where she finished sixth, compiling a 38.125, posting career high scores on the vault and balance beam recording a 9.700 and 9.050, respectfully. Yourick tied for 11th tallying a 9.600 on the uneven parallel bars and tied for seventh on the floor exercise with fellow junior Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Inst.) earning a 9.775. Wood posted a 9.225 on the bars.
Sophomore Kristina Kurkmilis (Eagleville, Pa.-Methacton) recorded a career high 9.825, good for seventh place on the vault. Senior Jessica Perdoch (Reading, Pa.-Exeter Township) and freshman Ashley Quinton (Calgary, Canada-Bishop Menally) recorded a tie for 14th, posting a 9.575.
Freshman Shawna Ciaramella (Hamilton, Ont.-St. Mary CSS) had a solid showing, earning a 9.600 for her performance on the balance beam followed by Senior Grace Crouch (Bellbrook, Ohio-Bellbrook) who tallied a 9.550.
The Eagles meet back up with the Air Force Academy for back-to-back meets March 2 and 5. Both meets will begin at 6 p.m. in U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. at Cadet Gym.
