Sunday's second round at the 54-hole event was suspended due to darkness
VICTORIA, Texas (EMUEagles.com) – After a three month layoff, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team returned to the links and kicked off the 2011 spring season Sunday, Feb. 13, here at the 17-team Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate at the par 72 Victoria Country Club. The Eagles are tied for fifth place with Lamar University after the first round with a team score of 317.
Sunday's second round at the 54-hole event was suspended due to darkness. The second round will conclude Monday with an 8:15 start, followed by the third and final round.
Eastern Michigan was led by the 76 of Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills), which puts her in a tie for sixth. Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) is tied for 16th with a 78, while Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich. -Walled Lake Central) is tied for 29th after carding a first round 80. Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) managed an 83, while Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls Texas Tech Univ.) tallied an 84.
Kansas leads the tournament with a 301 team score, while Mid-American Conference foes Ball State is ninth with a 320 and Toledo is tied for 10th with a 322.
The tournament field, including their GolfStat national rankings in parenthesis is: Tulsa (44), North Texas (53), Kansas (65), Toledo (72), UTEP (92), Sam Houston (95), Missouri State (98), Texas State (110), Lamar (117), Houston Baptist (123), Eastern Michigan (133), Ball State (137), Louisiana-Monroe (177), McNeese State (179), UT-Pan American (203) and Stephen F. Austin (216).
