KENT STATE vs. EASTERN MICHIGAN
Sunday, Eastern Michigan plays host to the 15th-ranked Kent State Golden Flashes in its lone Mid-American Conference home dual meet of the 2010-11 season. The Eagles enter today seeking their first conference victory of the campaign and will try to play spoiler against a Golden Flashes squad looking to clinch a share of the MAC regular season crown.
EMU is 4-0 at home this season with wins against Cleveland State, Oakland, SIU-Edwardsville and Tiffin while the Flashes come in 3-1 on the road with wins over Pittsburgh, Cleveland State and Buffalo with a loss to Missouri, currently ranked 18th-nationally.

EAGLE UPDATE: Although the Eagles won three of the last four matches against Buffalo, including the final two, it still wasn't enough to grab a Mid-American Conference road victory at Buffalo last Wednesday, Feb. 9. The Bulls put together a stretch of five straight match victories to take the dual, 20-12, against EMU.
Jared Germaine led off the match with a win at 125, but five matches passed before the Green and White was able to capture another win. Chris Eggert claimed a decision win at 174 before Nick Whitenburg and David Wade each took home wins at 197 and heavyweight, respectively. Eggert, Wade and Whitenburg are the lone Eagles with 2-0 MAC records entering this weekend.

SCOUTING THE FLASHES: Depending which set of rankings you look at, Kent State may or may not be ranked. According to the NWCA/USA Today Coaches Poll, the Golden Flashes come in as the 15th-ranked team in the nation.
Entering the weekend, Kent State has won 10 of its last 11 duals and currently has four wrestlers ranked in the nation's top-15. The Flashes have a chance to clinch a share of the MAC title should they win both duals this weekend.

SENIOR DAY FOR WADE AND HENDRICK: Saying goodbye to a pair of seniors like Nick Hendrick and David Wade is never easy, especially when they have meant so much to the program over the years. This season alone, both have combined to record a 27-18 overall record with Wade tallying 15 wins and Hendrick, 12.
“I am extremely proud of both these guys,” said Head Coach Derek DelPorto of both of his seniors. “They were recruited by the coach before me, but decided to stay at EMU under my guidance regardless of the change.
“They have been four-year starters for me and have done a great job helping me transform this team into what it is and what it is becoming. I wish the best for both of them in the last month of their wrestling careers and hope they walk away from EMU Wrestling with great memories and with no regrets.”

ON THE HORIZON: Following Sunday's dual against Kent State, the Eagles will head to Central Michigan and Ohio to close out the regular season Feb. 17 and 20, respectively. This year's Mid-American Conference Championships will be hosted by Northern Illinois and held in DeKalb, Ill., March 4-5. EMU senior David Wade took second a year ago and will try to repear as an NCAA Qualifier.

THE CAPTAIN'S CLUB: Head Coach Derek DelPorto announced the captains for the 2010-11 squad. As chosen by their peers, senior heavyweight David Wade - who is coming off a season in which he qualified for the NCAA Championships - headlines the five-member group. Redshirt freshman Jared Germaine, sophomore Aaron Sulzer and juniors J.J. Johnson and Corey Phillips round out this year's captains for the Eagles.

EMU RANKED 20TH-NATIONALLY IN APR RANKINGS: Eastern Michigan University's wrestling program is tied with Pittsburgh and Princeton in the annual Academic Performance Ratings (APR) as released by Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine's June Issue. It's a new program-best for the Eagle grapplers. EMU ranks ahead of all Mid-American Conference institutions in the highly-regarded poll including Northern Illinois (29th), Buffalo (44th), Kent State (47th), Central Michigan (60th) and Ohio (67th).
