The Eagles post 931 points for a second place finish over the weekend

— After two days of competition in the Eastern Michigan University Invitational, the women's swimming and diving team combined for 931 points to finish second behind Oakland University.

The Grizzlies recorded a field-best 1085 points, while the Eagles finished in second with 931 points. Wayne State finished third, tallying 628.5 points over the weekend, and Ashland and IUPUI placed fourth (504.5) and fifth (294), respectively. Findlay rounded out the competition in sixth place with 152 points.

Briana Emig set her second pool record for the weekend, this time in the 500 Freestyle event. She raced to a time of 4:44.75 to outpace all competitors. She later picked up her third first place finish in the invite, leading the way in the 400 Individual Medley. The junior was the first to touch the wall in 4:15.87, while teammate Jessie Godlewski took fifth in 4:32.31. Wesley Blassneck placed seventh in the event, completing the distance in 4:36.45.

In the 100 Butterfly, the Eagles placed four in the top-ten with Sara Ghaffari and Jackie Swartz going 2-3 with times of 55.86 and 55.93, respectively. Meghan Richardson finished eighth in 57.88, while Samantha Nameth recorded a time of 58.12 in ninth place.

Helena Tolic paced the Green and White in the 200 Freestyle. She sprinted to a 1:54.28 finish in the event, while teammate Pauline Vigneron followed in 1:54.57 for a fourth place performance. Tolic would also be the top EMU finisher in the 100 Backstroke, placing seventh with a time of 57.82.

With a time of career-best time of 1:04.99, Monica Dorszewski placed fourth in the 100 Breaststroke. Vanessa Weidner and Lauren Kalinosky contributed with sixth and seventh place finishes. The duo posted times of 1:06.88 and 1:07.00, respectively.

Swartz paced the Eagles in the 200 Individual Medley with her first place mark of 2:04.27. Godlewski would follow in fourth place with a time of 2:06.67.

In the 50 Freestyle, Ghaffari sprinted to a third-place, 23.84 finish. Meghan Richardson was the next EMU competitor to complete the distance with her time of 25.07 in 16th place.

On the boards, Danielle Hulvey tallied 317.10 points for a first place performance on the day. Kelly Hendricks would take second after posting a score of 298.90, and Soquel Rey and Christina Nunez-Wood placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Eagles finished runner-up in the 800 Freestyle Relay, as Emig, Ghaffari, Dorszewski and Godlewski were less than a second behind Oakland's first place finishing relay, combining for a time of 7:33.70. In the 400 Individual Medley Relay, EMU's Tolic, Dorszewski, Swartz and Ghaffari finished third in 3:51.25.

The Eagles will take time off before traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio for a two-day stay in the Buckeye State where they will face both Xavier and Cincinatti on Jan. 13-14.
