Eagles Head to Allendale to Open Indoor Season

The EMU men's track and field team opens up their indoor season Friday at Grand Valley State

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan men's track and field team will begin the 2011-12 campaign by opening the indoor season Friday, Dec. 16, at Grand Valley State University, by competing in the GVSU Holiday Open in Allendale, Mich.

The Eagles are coming off of a third place finish in the Mid-American Conference during the 2011 Indoor Championships. Eastern returns the 2011 Indoor Championships' Most Valuable Performer in Kevin Lanier, as well as a MAC Champion in the 5,000-meter run, Terefe Ejigu. Head Coach John Goodridge welcomes 16 freshmen performers, as well as a trio of transfer students to the 2011-12 squad who look to have an immediate impact for the Eagles.

The GVSU Holiday Meet is set to begin at 3 p.m. and will kick-off the first of six indoor meets for the Green and White this season before heading to Akron, Ohio for the 2012 MAC Indoor Championships. It will also be one-of-two trips to Allendale during the 2011-12 indoor campaign for EMU. The Akron Dual meet Friday, Jan. 13, is next on the list for Eastern followed by the Simmons-Harvey Invite in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Saturday, Jan. 21. On Feb. 2-3, the Eagles will travel to South Bend, Ind. for the Meyo Invitational and next head back to Allendale for the GVSU "Big Meet" Feb. 10-11. The Green and White will close out its regular indoor season schedule with a return-trip to Ann Arbor to compete in the Silverston Invitational, Feb. 21.
