Eastern Clips Falcons with Straight Set Win

The Eagles topped Bowling Green for their fourth straight win Saturday night

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team made quick work of the Falcons of Bowling Green State University Saturday, Oct. 15, to win their fourth straight match. The Eagles were able to drop BGSU in straight sets (25-22, 25-18, 25-16). The win was the Eagles second straight three-set victory.
Eastern improved their record to 17-6 (5-3 MAC) while the Falcons fell to 16-5 (3-5 MAC) after the loss.
Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) was a force offensively with a match-high 14 kills, while maintaining a .333 (14-2-36) hitting percentage and picking up eight digs. Kristen Baker (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor) chipped-in at the net with 11 kills and a .474 (11-2-19) attack percentage. As a team, Eastern hit .318 compared to the Falcons .170. Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) had a match-high 34 assists and Haley Stein (Carleton, Mich.-Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central) led EMU with 14 digs. Megan Crawshaw (Mattawan, Mich-Mattawan) and Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) each contributed six kills for the Eagles offense.
Iaquaniello led the attack in the opening frame with a .467 (7-0-15) attack percentage, while Baker added four. Mason picked up 11 assists in the first frame in the Eagles 25-22 opening set win.
Multiple Eagles made offensive contributions in the second set as Crawshaw, Iaquaniello and Roback added four kills and Baker added three. Mason added 13 assists in the second set en route to a two-set lead for Eastern.
Baker and Iaquaniello continued their offensive excellence in the final set of the match, helping the Green and White to a 25-16 win. Baker had four kills, while Iaquaniello added three to her total.
The Eagles return home for five straight home matches, with the Bulls of Buffalo to lead things off. Eastern and the Bulls hit the court at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center Friday, Oct. 21.
