Garrett Hoskins ans Justin Cudworth are second team, Brad Ohrman on third team
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Phil Steele has honored three Eastern Michigan University football players as members of his 2011 Mid-Season All-Mid-American Conference teams.
Named to the All-MAC second team were junior linebacker Justin Cudworth (Monte Nido, Calif.-Agoura-College of the Canyons) and junior tight end Garrett Hoskins (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Creston). Earning third team recognition was senior defensive lineman Brad Ohrman (Adrian, Mich.-Adrian).
Cudworth has started all six games this season for the Eagles, leading the team with 48 tackles and 6.5 tackles-for-loss. The Monte Nido, Calif. native ranks sixth in the Mid-American Conference and 82nd nationally in tackles, while coming in eighth in the league in tackles-for-loss and 85th nationally. His best game came in the season-opening victory over Howard University, Sept. 4, when he tallied 13 stops.
Hoskins has been the Eagles' top option in the passing game, leading the squad with 10 catches for 175 yards and a touchdown. Having tallied a catch in five of the Eagles six contests this season, Hoskins has started every game in 2011 and 13 during his EMU career.
Ohrman has been an anchor on the Eagles' defensive line, starting all six contests in 2011 at defensive end. He has racked up 26 tackles, 3.0 sacks, an interception and forced a fumble in those contests. The Adrian, Mich. native ranks eighth in the MAC and 86th nationally in sacks. His season-best effort came at Penn State University, Sept. 24, when he picked off PSU quarterback Rob Bolden's pass on the opening play of the fourth quarter and returned it 14 yards to the Nittany Lion 21-yard line for his first career interception. Ohrman also added a fumble recovery late in the fourth quarter, the second of his career.
Through the first six games this season, the Eagles' defense has allowed just 158 points for a total of 26.3 points per game. The last EMU squad to accomplish the feat was the 1996 team, which allowed just 142 points through its first six contests. EMU currently ranks 62nd nationally in scoring defense and fifth in the MAC.
Eastern Michigan remains on the road Saturday, Oct. 15, with a Mid-American Conference road test against Central Michigan University. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
