Eagles notch 19 wins in three-day tourney in East Lansing, Mich.
EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team wrapped up the final day of the three-day Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich., with five wins on Sunday, Sept. 26.
Sensational freshman Nino Mebuke shined bright, knocking off host school's Michaela Silesova in come-from-behind fashion (2-6, 7-5, 6-0) as she took home a Draw B single's title in her first collegiate tournament. Mebuke also teamed with Miriam Westerink for a win in the Draw A doubles' consolation final.
Other victories include a Mariya Toncheva and Marcela Rivero doubles consolation win over a Detroit team and Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr's singles consolation win over Lauren Pickrel of Ball State.
"We had some success this weekend to take with us," said EMU Head Coach Ryan Ray. "It was great to see Nino capture a singles title and only lose one doubles match. I thought we did a great job of fighting back from first set losses today to advance to third sets, and win two of those three matches. We need to get healthier this week and get ready to compete in Colorado on Friday morning."
The Eagles will return to action Friday-Sunday, Oct. 1-3, at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Spring, Colo.
