EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- After two rounds of the Mary Fossum Invitational Saturday, Sept. 25 the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team resides in ninth place with a team score of 639 (326-313), 48 strokes behind leader Kent State University (301-290=591). The University of Notre Dame is in second at 593 (298-295) with host Michigan State University in third place at 595 (297-298).
The 27th annual tournament is being held at MSU's Forest Akers West Golf Course; the third and final round is set for Sunday, Sept. 26, at 9 a.m.
Senior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) led the Eagles with a nine-over 153 and is in a tie for 14th place. Scott carded a six-over 78 in the first round and followed that effort with a three-over 75 in the second round.
Classmate Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) is right behind Scott in 25th place. Although Peters shot a 79 to begin the day, she bounced back with a 76 a in the afternoon session to finish with a 155 .
Redshirt freshman Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills) is also in the top 50 on the leaderboard, as she sits in a tie for 49th with a 162 (83-79). Sophomore Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) and freshman Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) are tied for 61st place with a 171.
Notre Dame's Nicole Zhang (69-67--136) leads the individual leaderboard by seven strokes going into the final round.
