ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished in 14th place on the final leaderboard Sunday afternoon, Sept. 12, at the Wolverine Invitational. EMU's three-day total of 958 (318-322-318) kept them 62 strokes behind Florida International, who recorded a final tally of 44-over 896 (301-292-303) to win the tournament.
Leading the way for the Green and White was redshirt freshman Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills) who carded a 79 on the final 18 holes. The newcomer from Canada, finished the three-day tournament at 20-over 233 (75-79-79) to place in a five-way tie for 27th place. Paula Hurtado of FIU took home the individual medalist honors with a nine-over 222.
Senior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) followed Kwon for EMU shooting a five-over 75 this afternoon, as she finished in a four-way tie for 32nd with a final score of 21-over 234 (78-80-76). Senior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) was third for the Eagles recording an 84 giving her a three-round score of 242 (79-79-84).
Sophomore Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) carded a 79 on the final day to finish tied for 81st with a 252 (89-84-79). Rounding out the scoring for EMU was freshman Corey Crossan (London, Ontario-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) who fired a 85 to give her a final tally of 256 (86-85-85).
Eastern Michigan will compete next at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich., Sept. 25-26.
