EAST LANSING, Mich. The Eagles' victory snapped MSU's recent domination in the series, with the Spartans now holding a 20-8 edge in the all-time series. Prior to Saturday's victory, Eastern had lost six consecutive matches to MSU dating back to the 1993 season. EMU's last win occurred nearly 19 years ago when the then-Hurons recorded a 3-1 victory at venerable Bowen Field House, Sept. 23, 1992.
The victory moves the Eagles to 10-1 on the season, the program's best 11-match record since the 2003 campaign. Additionally, the win was the first by EMU over a Big Ten Conference foe since Sept. 14, 2002, when the Eagles upended Iowa, 3-1, at the Western Illinois Tournament.
Meanwhile, the loss drops the Spartans to 6-3 on the young season.

Following the timeout, the Spartans would take four of the final eight points to end the set, 25-23.
Eastern rolled out to a 6-2 advantage in the third set, but MSU fired back to bring the score to 17-10. The Spartan run saw themselves scoring nine straight points before an MSU service error. With the six point lead at 17-11, the Spartans kept control of the set as they took eight of 13 points to end the set by a score of 25-16.
The Eagles once again got on the Spartans in the fourth set, 5-3. However, MSU would again rally back to tie the set at 7-7. After tying at both eights and nines, the Eagles began to slowly pull away from the Spartans, getting out to a 12-9 lead before the Spartans called a timeout. MSU responded following the timeout by going on a 7-5, pulling back within one at 17-16. Eastern Michigan slowly began to pull away from MSU, taking the fourth set 25-21.
