Rynearson Stadium will host the Tigers during the 2010 football season

YPSILANTI, Mich.- (EMUEagles.com) – When Belleville High School was looking for a 2010 home for their high school football team, Eastern Michigan University was ready and willing to help the cause.

Belleville, located just 10 miles east of the EMU campus, has been undergoing major renovations to their high school complex, including the football stadium. The renovations are continuing this fall, leaving the Tigers without a home for their football squad.

Belleville Director of Athletics Rod Fisher contacted EMU to see if Rynearson Stadium would be available for the four home dates that the Tigers had scheduled for 2010.

EMU Director of Athletics Derrick Gragg checked with the University for a ruling on the issue and also asked the Athletics Compliance Office to make sure that it was permissible under NCAA regulations to rent the facility to Belleville.

After it was determined that all of the criteria was met, Gragg informed Fisher that Rynearson could be Belleville's football home for 2010.

"Any time we have an opportunity to assist a local high school in an endeavor like this we feel fortunate that we are able to help," Gragg said. "Fortunately, our football team is scheduled for road trips on all of the dates that Belleville needed for home games, so it worked out quite well for both sides."

Belleville's Fisher is also excited that the situation was remedied before the Tigers open their season, August 27 at Saline.

"Belleville High School is ecstatic about playing our four home games at EMU this fall," Belleville's A.D. Fisher said. "With the construction of our new high school in progress, we will not host outdoor athletic events this fall. We feel very fortunate that EMU opened its doors to us so that this football season will be remembered for a long time. Our football team, cheerleaders, band and community are all grateful to EMU."

After the Aug. 27 opener at Saline, Belleville will play the first of four Friday home games in Rynearson, Sept. 10, against Dearborn Fordson. The other three Belleville games in Rynearson will have the Tigers hosting Dearborn Edsel Ford, Oct. 8, Dearborn Heights Crestwood, Oct. 15, and Walled Lake Western, Oct. 22. All game times are 7 p.m.
