YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — For more than 50 years the arrival of fall has been marked by the release of the Eastern Michigan University football media guide. However, for the first time in 2010 the annual publication will be available only online at EMUEagles.com, as the athletic department moves toward digital media guides.
The digital media guides are part of a continued partnership with SIDEARM Sports (formerly Internet Consulting Services).
The first digital media guide to be unveiled prior to Mid-American Conference Football Media Day on July 30 is football followed soon thereafter by women's soccer and volleyball.
The new digital media guides provide fans with a more interactive way to learn about their favorite EMU teams, as they can literally flip through the pages and easily search for information on each athlete. The books also boast a dynamic table of contents which will take fans directly to any section.
In addition, some of the digital media guides will include “living stats,” which will update a player's season and career statistics after each game, and athletes can be compared across seasons. The “living stats” also include yearly schedules with game-by-game statistics.
EMU had printed media guides since the 1950s and electronic versions have been available on EMUEagles.com since the 2001-02 season. The online media guides are free for users to view, download and print.
Media guides include photos and information about the university, coaches, staff and student-athletes, as well as schedules, rosters, statistics, team records and program history. They were printed once at the beginning of the season and were not updated.
EMUEagles.com is the most current source of information for all of EMU's athletic programs. The website also offers live and on-demand audio/video streaming, live in-game statistics, a photo store, mobile downloads and an opt-in direct e-mail news service.
