Two Eagles Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

Nick Carbary and Brad Larente earn the prestigious honor
NORMAN, Okla. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University men's golf standouts Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) and Brad Larente (Cambridge, Ontario-Hespeler Secondary) were selected as 2009-10 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
In all, a total of 119 Division I student-athlete were honored this season.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Carbary, who has a 3.60 GPA in accounting, In 31 rounds, averaged 75.4 strokes per round in 2009. Ranked 639th according to the Golfweek/Sagarin system, Carbary recorded four rounds of par-or-better. He turned in a season-low 68 in the opening round of The Firestone Invitational.
Carbary tied for 12th place at the Windon Memorial Classic with a seven-over 220 (76-70-74) and placed 16th at the Firestone Invitational with a 223 (68-78-77). He also finished tied for 21st at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
Larente, who boasts a 3.41 GPA in economics, averaged 74.4 strokes per 18 holes in 2009-10 while playing in 10 of the Eagles' 11 tournaments. The Cambridge, Ontario native picked up his second career top-10 showing with an eighth place finish at the MAC Championship with a 296 (74-73-74-75).
Ranked 385th according to the Golfweek/Sagarin system, Larente has five rounds of par-or-better this season and 15 rounds in his career. He tied for 14th place with a 221 (76-73-72) at the Windon Memorial Classic and finished 16th at The Firestone Invitational with a seven-over 223 (73-74-76). Larente recorded a 17th place finish at the Wolverine at Radrick Farms with a one-over 217 (73-73-71) and tied for 18th at the Boilermaker Invitational with a 222 (72-73-77).
