Box Score

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – A six-run sixth inning tied the game and a Kaylee Tolliver RBI single in the eighth won it for the Eastern Michigan University softball team, 7-6, in an extra-inning, Mid-American Conference game on Alumni Day against the Northern Illinois Huskies amidst the wind and rain at Varsity Field Saturday, May 8.

Jenny Scherer went 2-for-4 with two doubles and led the eighth inning rally with a leadoff double down the left-field line. She scored the winning run on Tolliver's RBI single that dropped in front of the Huskie right fielder. The sophomore finished 2-for-4 in the win. Fellow sophomore Sarah Gerber also added two hits for the Eagles to extend her hitting streak to 10 games.

The Huskies got on the board first with a first inning home run by Zoe Sinner, her 11th of the season, to put the visitors up, 1-0. They would add to it in the fourth inning with Krista Matsui's run-scoring double to left-field, giving NIU a 2-0 advantage.

EMU starting pitcher freshman Jillian Williamson ran into some trouble in the fifth inning as the Huskies strung together four hits to push across three runs before senior Michelle Hletko came on in relief. NIU would add one more run to make it 6-0 after five.

The Eagles finally got on the scoreboard in a big way in the sixth inning. Jessica Richards grounded to the second baseman to drive in Lauren Delapaz, but an error on the catch by the first baseman allowed Jessica Patterson to come around to score from second as well. Jenny Scherer then brought Richards around with a double to right-center to make it 6-3. EMU added three more runs, highlighted by a Nellie Coquillard two-run double, to complete the impressive comeback.

Tolliver's game-winner in the eighth ended a four-game skid for the Green and White and kept slim hopes of a possible postseason berth still alive.

The Eagles and Huskies will meet again tomorrow in the regular season finale. Seniors Jenny Scherer, Michelle Hletko and Jessica Patterson will be honored for Senior Day prior to the game which is slated to start at 1 p.m.
