BREMERTON, Wash. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team remains in the hunt for an NCAA Championship berth after a second round score of six-over par 294 Friday, May 21, at the 2010 NCAA West Regional Championships on the par 72, 7,104-yard Gold Mountain Golf Club course. The Eagles remain in ninth place overall with a two-round total of 597 (303-294), just 10 shots back of the top five.
Host Washington continues to hold down the tournament's top spot with a seven-under 569 (286-283) as Darren Wallace surged atop the individual leader board at five-under 139 (70-69). Illinois moved into second place with a 585 (293-292), followed closely by Southern California and San Diego in a tie for third at 586. Oregon State rounded out the top five with a 587 (291-296).
Teams finishing in the top five of the final standings at the 2010 NCAA Regional Championships will earn the right to compete in the field at the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships slated for June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Senior Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) carded the Eagles' first round under-par to move into a tie for 11th place at 145 (74-71). The Baden, Ontario native is within striking distance of heading to the NCAA Championships on his own, but will need to leapfrog five individuals to claim the at-large berth that goes to the lowest finishing individual not on an advancing team.
Senior Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) turned in a second round 72 for 25th place at 148 (76-72) followed by Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) in 48st place with a 153 (73-80). Junior Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) and redshirt junior Brad Larente (Cambridge, Ontario-Hespeler Secondary) rounded out the lineup with a 153 (82-73) and a 158 (80-87), respectively.
The Green and White will be back on the course for the final round of the 2010 NCAA West Regional Golf Tournament Saturday, May 22, beginning at 7:30 a.m. on the 10th hole. Live scoring for the NCAA West Regional is available online at www.golfstat.com.
