YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped its series finale versus the University of Toledo Rockets Sunday afternoon, May 16, at Oestrike Stadium, as the Eagles fell, 7-3, in a Mid-American Conference West Division match-up.

EMU drops to 25-27 (13-11 MAC) with the loss, while UT improves to 31-19 (17-7 MAC) with the win.

Senior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) led the way offensively for the Eagles in the final home game of his career, as he finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI.

Offensively, the Eagles stranded nine runners on base, while the Rockets stranded 12.

The Eagles' one-run advantage evaporated into a one-run deficit in the top of the sixth, as the Rockets plated a pair of runs to take a 3-2 advantage, forcing EMU Head Coach Jay Alexander to take out freshman starting pitcher Steve Weber (North Royalton, Ohio-North Royalton). Weber went five innings and gave up three runs on five hits while walking one Rocket in his first MAC start of the season.

Toledo extended its lead to three in the top of the seventh, as a two-run single up the middle by Joe Corfman made it a 5-2 game with one out.

The Eagles limited the deficit to two runs in the bottom of the seventh, as a dropped fly ball by UT's Jared Hoying in center field paved the way for an RBI single by Marshall, making it a 5-3 game.

But the Rockets again made it a three-run game, as an RBI base hit by Tim Krofcheck plated Chris Dudics to make it a 6-3 game. UT tacked on one more run in the ninth to take a 7-3 advantage, one they would not relinquish in the bottom half of the inning.

EMU is back in action for its final MAC series of the season when they head to Mount Pleasant, May 20-22, for a three-game set versus the Central Michigan University Chippewas.
