MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – In game one of a three-game Mid-American Conference series, the Eastern Michigan University baseball team fell, 6-0, Thursday afternoon, May 20, to the Central Michigan University Chippewas.
EMU falls to 25-28 (13-12 MAC) with the loss, while CMU improves to 31-20 (18-7 MAC) with the win.
Sophomore Kendall Lewis (Huntsville, Ohio-Indian Lake) went six innings in the loss, putting his record at 6-4 this season. Lewis gave up four runs on 11 hits and six walks, while fanning two batters.
Junior Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) led the Eagles at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a walk.
After posting a run in the bottom of the first inning, the Chips strung together three runs on three singles to take a four-run lead in the bottom of the third, one they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest.
CMU's Jesse Hernandez got the win and improved his record to 8-2 this season with the complete game shutout.
EMU and CMU are back in action tomorrow, May 20, at 3:05 p.m. Junior right-handed pitcher Corey Chaffins (New London, Ohio-New London) will get the start on the mound for Eastern Michigan.
