EMU posts solid finishes in Spring Lake

SPRING LAKE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – On the eve of Easter Sunday, the Eastern Michigan University women's rowing team took to the waters for the 2010 Don Lubbers Cup Regatta, hosted by Grand Valley State University on Spring Lake, in Spring Lake, Mich.

The regatta is a chance for early season sprint racing against top competition, all on a six-lane, on a partially buoyed course. The rowers had a strong outing, winning one event and placing second in two others.

In the women's varsity 4+, the Eagles took the win with a time of 8:49.9, crossing the line 37 seconds before host school GVSU to claim victory.

The women posted their fastest time of the day in the Women's Varsity Eight Grand Final 'Nancy Lubbers Cup' en route to a second-place finish. The Eagles bested Ohio State and Michigan State to secure a No. 2 finish in the race.

Eastern will take a two week break from competition before returning to the waters of Buffalo, N.Y. to take on Mid-American Conference opponent University at Buffalo for the Harvey Cup, April 17.
