YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team is back in action for four games this week, as the Eagles head to Jacksonville, Ala. to take on Jacksonville State University and Michigan State University. The Eagles and Spartans will play Friday, March 12, at noon at Rudy Abbott Field in Jacksonville before EMU takes on Jacksonville State at 3 p.m. EMU will take on JSU on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. on both days.

LOOKING BACK:
In five games last week, the Eagles (4-7) finished with a 2-3 mark in two games against Arkansas-Little Rock and three versus Belmont. The Eagles split with UALR, posting a 7-6 win in the final game, while taking one out of three against Belmont, handing the Bruins their first loss of the season.

EMU VERSUS JACKSONVILLE STATE AND MICHIGAN STATE:
The Eagles have a 1-0 record all-time versus the Gamecocks, with their only meeting ending in a 3-2 decision in favor of EMU on March 9, 1985.

The Spartans hold a 66-53-1 all-time mark versus the Eagles, but in their last meeting, EMU came away with a 6-1 win on April 29, 2009. The Eagles and Spartans meet two more times this season, with the next meeting coming April 27 at Oestrike Stadium. A day later, the two teams will play a 7:05 p.m. game at Oldsmobile Park in Lansing, Mich.

THE COACHES:
Eastern Michigan Head Coach Jay Alexander enters Friday's game with a 191-192 career record, including a 30-43 mark in two seasons with the Eagles. Jacksonville State's Jim Case has a career record of 260-216 as of Sunday, March 7, while Michigan State's Jake Boss. Jr. has a career record of 54-69 as of March 7.

COMMON THREADS:
EMU and JSU have three common opponents on the 2010 schedule, as both squads will play or have already played Michigan, Michigan State and Miami (Ohio).

Current Michigan State Head Coach Jake Boss Jr. coached the Eagles during the 2008 season, leading EMU to the MAC Tournament title and the program's first NCAA Regional bid since the 2003 season. EMU and MSU have nine common opponents scheduled this season.

LEONARD ON THE MARK:
Junior infielder Zack Leonard put up impressive numbers at the plate last week, as the Canton, Ohio native went 11-for-23 (.478) at the dish with five doubles and a grand slam home run, while scoring four runs and tallying 12 RBI. Leonard finished the week with a .826 slugging percentage.

WALK THIS WAY:
Redshirt sophomore transfer Ben Magsig has recorded a whopping 15 walks already this season batting in the No. 2 spot. The Okemos, Mich. native and junior college transfer from Lansing C.C. reached base safely in 10 straight at-bats going into EMU's March 6 doubleheader against Belmont. In his last 20 plate appearances, Magsig has reached base safely 15 times, as he leads the team with a .538 on-base percentage.

WHAT A RELIEF:
Freshman right-handed hurler Joe Battistelli was outstanding in two relief appearances last week. Battistelli went three and two-thirds innings against Arkansas-Little Rock, March 3, giving up just one run on three hits, while fanning five Trojans to earn the victory. The Allen Park, Mich. native picked up his second win of his career and helped the Eagles knock off previously unbeaten Belmont, March 6, as he went four and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits, while striking out five Bruins.

AIN'T LIFE GRAND:
Junior transfer Bo Kinder belted his first-career home run against Belmont, March 5, as he hit a grand slam off BU's Josh Davis to put the finishing touches on a six-run innings for the Eagles.

OFFENSIVE FIREWORKS:
Through 11 games this season, the Eagles are averaging just less than seven runs per-game and have posted 10 or more runs on three separate occasions. The Eagles are also averaging just over 11 hits per-game this season.

GOING STREAKING:
Senior infielder Aaron Crooks is currently riding a career and team best seven-game hitting streak, the second longest by an EMU player this season. Junior Ken Battiston has EMU's longest hitting streak of the season, which spanned nine games from Feb. 22-March 5.
