OLEAN, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University baseball team opened up Mid-American Conference play Saturday afternoon, March 27, with a split versus the University at Buffalo Bulls at Fred Handler Park.

EMU dropped the first game, 5-2, before coming back in game two to claim a 7-2 win after a six-run top of the fifth inning all but sealed it for the Eagles.

EMU moves to 9-14 (1-1 MAC) after the split, while UB moves to 10-9 (1-1 MAC).

Sophomore right hander Kendall Lewis (Huntsville, Ohio-Indian Lake) picked up the victory for the Eagles in game two, as he went seven and one-thirds innings, giving up no runs and three hits, while fanning seven Bulls. Lewis has not surrendered a run in his last two starts and has tallied 14 strikeouts and given up just six hits.

Freshman Daniel Russell (Grandville, Mich.-Grandville) and senior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) both tallied three hits in game two, while senior Todd Graves (St. Marys, Ohio-St. Marys Memorial) and Russell both finished with two RBI in the win.

In game one, the Eagles could not get the offense going, as the team managed just five hits and stranded seven runners on base. Junior pitcher Corey Chaffins (New London, Ohio-New London) notched his second complete game of the year in the loss, as he gave up five runs on 11 hits, while surrendering no walks and striking out seven.

Redshirt sophomore Ben Magsig (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Lansing C.C.) and senior Aaron Crooks (Toledo, Ohio-Ottawa Hills) both finished with one hit and one stolen base for the Eagles in game one.

The Eagles and Bulls wrap up the three-game set tomorrow, March 28, with a noon rubber-match at Fred Handler Park on the campus of St. Bonaventure University.
