W. Swimming & Diving Puts Four on Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team put four student-athletes on the 32-member Academic All- Mid-American Conference squad the conference office announced Thursday, March 25.
The Academic All-MAC honor is awarded to student-athletes that display excellence in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the swim meets in the 2009-10 season. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
The Green and White were represented by seniors Steph Cholyk and Kristin Roach, as well as sophomores Samantha Partridge and Sarah Maraskine represented the Green and White on this year's squad.
Cholyk, a biology major with a 3.70 GPA, was one-of-five repeat selections from 2008-09. The Aurora, Ontario native swam freestyle for the Eagles this year, participating in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle events in addition to the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay at the MAC Championships, helping the Eagles finish fourth as a team.
Roach, a senior with a 3.84 GPA in electronic media and film studies, was selected to her first Academic All-MAC team. The Centerville, Ohio native competed in the 50-yard freestyle and 100- and 200-yard backstroke at the MAC Championships.
Partridge is a dietetics major with a 3.66 GPA in her sophomore year. The Carmel, Ind. native was a first team All-MAC selection after finishing second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with an NCAA consideration time of 16:33.16, third in the 500-yard freestyle with a consideration time of 4:48.27, fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with another consideration time of 1:49.04 and third in the 800-yard freestyle relay at the MAC Championships. She was a second team All-MAC selection as a freshman.
Maraskine, a sophomore, has a 3.41 GPA in chemistry. A native of Midland, Mich., she took fourth place in the 100-yard backstroke in an NCAA consideration time of 55.18 at the MAC Championships. She swam the third leg on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished third and the opening leg on the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay teams that each finished seventh at the MAC Championships as well.
It was the second straight year that EMU has had four selections to the Academic All-MAC team.
