LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (EMUEagles.com) –
A 10-run bottom of the third inning by the University of Arkansas-Little Rock provided too much of a deficit for the Eastern Michigan University baseball team to overcome Tuesday evening, March 2, at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock, Ark., as the Eagles fell, 15-4, to the Trojans in the first of back-to-back games this week.

EMU drops to 2-5 this season with the loss, while UALR improves to 7-1 with the win.

After putting up one run in the bottom of the first, the Trojans opened the flood gates in the bottom of the third, putting 10 runs on the scoreboard to take a commanding 11-0 lead.

The Eagles tallied three runs in the top of the fifth on RBI hits from juniors Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) and Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley), plus an RBI sacrifice fly by senior Todd Graves (St. Marys, Ohio-St. Marys Memorial) to make it an 11-3 game.

But the Trojan offense proved to be too much for the Eagles, as UALR tallied four more in the bottom of the seventh to all but seal it, handing EMU its second loss in-a-row in which it has given up 15 runs.

Skirving and Leonard both finished 2-for-4 at the plate in the loss, while junior Ken Battiston (West Milton, Ohio-Milton Union) went 1-for-4 at the plate to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

Sophomore lefty Collin Taylor (Cincinnati, Ohio-Lakota West) took the loss for the Eagles, putting his record at 1-1 this season, while Ryan Juris picked up the win to improve his record to 2-0.

Eastern Michigan and Arkansas-Little Rock meet again tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Gary Hogan Field.
