JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped the second game of a three-game series versus the Jacksonville State University Gamecocks Saturday afternoon, March 13, as the Eagles fell, 8-4, at Rudy Abbott Field.
EMU drops to 5-8, while JSU improves to 5-9 with the win.
Senior Todd Graves (St. Marys, Ohio-St. Marys Memorial) and junior Matt Skirving (Midland, Mich.-H.H. Dow) both collected two hits for the Eagles in the loss, while juniors Ken Battiston (West Milton, Ohio-Milton Union) and Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) both went 1-for-5 with an RBI.
Sophomore right hander Jordan Glover (Toronto, Ontario-Ontario Schools) took the loss for the Eagles, as he went five innings and gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and four walks, while striking out four Gamecocks.
The Eagles never managed to recover from a three-run bottom of the fifth inning by the Gamecocks, as JSU turned a two-run deficit into a one-run advantage after an Andrew Edge two-run homer and an EMU error plated three-runs, all with two outs, to make it a 5-4 game.
The two teams combined for nine total errors, as Eastern Michigan tallied four and Jacksonville State finished with five.
Eastern Michigan and Jacksonville State wrap up the three-game set tomorrow with a 1 p.m. game at Rudy Abbott Field.
