YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team took a few pages from the script of Thursday night's contest against Kent State University as senior guard Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright) once again led the Eagles in scoring, and Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) and Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenville) each turned in double-doubles, but the Eagles re-wrote the story's ending as the team walked away with a 70-61 win over the Ohio University Bobcats Saturday, Feb. 6, in a Mid-American Conference cross-divisional battle here at the Convocation Center.

Medlock scored a game-high 31 points while Bowdry's 17-point, 15-rebound double-double effort was the 19th of his career and the 12th this season.  Dobbins' 12-point 10-rebound effort was his second this year and his third career double-double.

The win helped improve the Eagles to 12-11 (4-6 MAC), while Ohio drops to 12-11 (3-6 MAC).

Medlock also added four rebounds and four assists to go along with his 31 points (including 8-of-12 from the field, 5-of-8 from three and 10-of-12 from the free throw line).

The Bobcats were led by Armon Bassett, who scored 19 points, and outstanding freshman point guard D.J. Cooper's 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Two early three-pointers from Medlock's got the scoring started for the Eagles, as he knocked down consecutive long bombs to put the Eastern ahead, 10-8.

Ohio would knot the game at 19-19 after two free throws with just under five minutes remaining in the half. But Eastern was able to outscore the Bobcats 6-3 over the final 4:06 of the half to take a 25-22 lead into the locker room.

Medlock and Bowdry led the Eagles with eight first-half points each, while Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenville) chipped in six. Bowdry also grabbed eight rebounds in the opening frame.

Dobbins added to his point total and the EMU lead as he successfully converted on an old-fashioned three-point play to start the second half. But the Bobcats battled back and took the lead, 38-34, after consecutive three pointers by Tommy Freeman and Bassett.

The Eagles once again earned the advantage, 50-46, after Medlock scored Eastern's next eight points, connecting on two from beyond the arc and another pull-up jumper, and Dobbins threw in back-to-back one handed dunks.

The lead was pushed to six points on the strength of two Jay Higgins (Fayetteville, N.C.-IMG Academy-Hillsborough (Fla.) C.C.) free throws with 4:52 left in the game. Continuous comeback efforts by the Bobcats were thwarted by timely Eagle baskets, most notably another long-range dagger off the hands of the senior leader Medlock, which put the lead to seven points.

Strong free throw shooting helped EMU close out the contest and secure the victory.

Eastern will hit the road en route to the Empire State for a mid-week contest with the University at Buffalo, Wednesday, Feb. 10.
